Emanuel Inspection Report 2010.pdf

Emanuel prides itself on doing things a little bit differently from many of the other top schools in London.

For example, we have chosen a pass mark for our entrance exams which is much lower than many other schools of our type. This is because we want to attract pupils to Emanuel with particular talent in art, music, drama and sport – areas in which this school excels. This policy is not borne out of need: we receive far more applications than we have places and Emanuel is an academically selective school. However we also wish to encourage applicants with strengths in other areas, not just those with academic strengths.

This is why we place particular importance on the performance of pupils at interview (provided that they meet our minimum standard in the tests). We also read your child’s current school reports carefully so we know more about them. We go out of our way to look for children who are “joiners in” and who will fully participate in the life of the school. We hope that your child will wish to stay at school for practices and training sessions after lessons finish, and will want to play in sports fixtures which may take place on Saturdays (and occasionally on Sundays). We hope that your child will want, at some stage in their Emanuel career, to take part in some the trips which are organised over half term and during the holidays. This is not a school which only operates from 8.30am to 3.45pm. We are seeking pupils who are going to make full use of the opportunities on offer here.

If your child fits this profile, I hope that he or she will visit Emanuel and may be tempted to apply. For details about how to apply please scroll down using the downward arrow or click on the buttons on the left of the screen to jump to the appropriate section.

Thank you very much for taking an interest in Emanuel School.
