Yesterday (4th July), the whole of Year 7 and 13 members of staff made the journey to Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre to watch a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

It was quite the midsummer’s day in temperatures of around 28 degrees and intense sunshine, but the pupils coped well with the extreme weather and hugely enjoyed seeing the play, which they have been studying in their English lessons this year, brought to life.

Despite the Shakespearean language, the performance had some modern twists, including opening with a beatboxing scene and costumes featuring rainbow-coloured tights and plaid pyjamas. The pupils particularly liked Puck, played with particularly enjoyable humour from actor Myra McFadyen.

The actress who played Hermia was engaging and would have been great in a horror adaptation!

The fairies were creepy but fun to watch, and the slow motion was very effective.

I liked how creative it was, it was different to what we expected but it was great to see it acted out on the stage.

Well done to all of the pupils for their wonderful behaviour and a huge thank you to Miss McCloud for organising the trip with outstanding finesse!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is being performed in the Open Air Theatre until 27th July. Click here to find out more and to view photos of this highly creative adaptation.
