We’re always delighted to hear of the Emanuel School Boat Club naming a new vessel, the latest honouring long-serving coach Mr Sam Gourevitch, who has been with the school since 2005.

Sam has rowed at Cygnet Rowing Club since 1984 and over his seventeen years with ESBC has coached some great crews, having a hand in developing and encouraging many of our top competitors. His roles have included Lead Coach for the Junior Starters, which once featured Chetan Chauhan-Sims (who later represent GB Juniors) and more recently Lauren McCauliffe (Emanuel’s first female student to win a national vest).

As well as coaching, Sam was Boatman for three years and Boathouse Manager for several others. Sam’s proudest moments include his crews winning two gold medals (and other colours) at the National Schools’ Regatta, one of the most prestigious events in the rowing calendar. Sam takes great pride in the fact that many boys and girls he has coached have later represented their universities and are still rowing today.

This honour has been well earned and we hope ‘Sam Gourevitch’ achieves great things and makes waves on the river!
