Won by five wickets

This was a great victory for the team against Alleyn’s on Saturday 11th May.

Losing the toss, we were invited to field first. After sizeable pressure created from an impressive open bowling partnership from Ivan Barker and George Wilson, the first wicket occurred. Three great catches and a clean bowled saw them four wickets down by the 17th over. The squeeze continued with a great middle over spell by Billy Hughes and James Ash Vie both picking up three wickets each to help leave Alleyn’s struggling at 100-8. An important run out left Alleyn’s with only one wicket in hand which was soon taken away from them by George Wilson also picking up his third. The total which the team was required to chase down was 105 – a very competent fielding performance by the squad

The pitch was definitely kinder to the bowlers. This was seen by an unlucky early wicket by the opposition. A well hit shot by Nancy Hughes was superbly caught by an Alleyn’s fielder standing in the right place. Ernest Pretzlik’s resilience to stay in was rewarded with a score of 26 runs only being dismissed by a questionable decision. Captain Sinan Mahmud put in a very complete performance notching a score of 39 which would put the team in control. A quick 26 by Will Ellis meant that the victory was on the cusp, which was then seen out by Billy Hughes and George Wilson confirming the win. The team was able to achieve their score in the 28th over showing the control of our performance.

Overall, it a very successful day on the pitch which saw the team take an impressive scalp to add to the growing collection. Let’s hope that the good form continues.
