Thank you to everyone who has supported our meals-in-a-bag appeal to provide meals to vulnerable families in our partner primary schools. We have been overwhelmed by the response, with 142 donations received. This week, our catering team prepared and staff delivered 940 meals to 235 families at 12 partner primary schools.

We have been so thankful for the support of Sodexo, our school caterer, parents, staff, pupils who have donated their pocket money and local businesses. For example, a donation was made by Shreenathji Newsagents on behalf of its customers. They have a charity box in the shop so that customers can donate their change to charity. They told us, ‘In this current pandemic it is essential to help our communities and the meals-in-a-bag initiative is a brilliant scheme to support. Thanks to all customers of Shreenathji Newsagents.’

Each meal-in-a-bag includes a recipe and all the necessary ingredients to make a tasty, nutritious meal for a family of 4. This week’s menu included winter vegetable and butterbean hot pot and creamy vegetable korma plus green beans, broccoli and cauliflower, lemon drizzle cake, chocolate chip flapjacks and brownies. Our partner primary schools were delighted with the food provision. Feedback from families includes ‘We cooked all the ingredients to the letter and can’t tell you enough how good it was’ and ‘Thank you for the lovely recipe and ingredients. We made it together and we loved it ‘.
