This term we’ve worked hard to revamp the Sevens program, extending our offer into the Lower school in a bid to improve the quality of provision for our most able Rugby players.

We’ve been fortunate to enter all of our teams into the Surrey County tournaments and have been having great success so far with the U13, U14, U16 and U18 squads keeping a eye on the prestigious Rosslyn Park National Sevens competition at the end of the term.

U15 – Surrey Bowl Winners

Following a group that consisted of 4 teams that made it through to the finals of their respective afternoon competitions we began to play some great sevens in the afternoon fixtures to win the Bowl.

Some stand out performances from Charlie Allen, Kit Rucker, Miles Edward-Hobbs moved the team into some quality field position to capitalise and gain comfortable victories over City of London Freemans, Carshalton Boys and eventually Tiffin in the Bowl final running out 24-5.

A huge thanks to Mr Leigh for his efforts this season in the 15 a side program and wise words today!

U16 – Surrey Cup Quarterfinalists

We had a very good run out at this years U16 Surrey competition with the likes of Lucas Wilmot, Archie Goss and Harry Graham leading the charge in our early pool games beating some quality opposition. Due to injuries we entered the highest teir competition with only 10 players which proved difficult on the legs which allowed RGS to run away with the game in the final minutes due to us chasing the game.

The boys played to our principles of play and got some great success and are extremely excited about the challenges coming up at Rosslyn Park.

1st VII – Plate Winners – Reed’s Schools Sevens

The 1st VII had a fantastic first outing of the season finishing 2nd overall and taking home the honours of Plate winners at this years Reed’s Schools Sevens competition. The squad were complimented by eventual winners Epsom College on their style and structure which caused them some challenges in what our first competitive fixture of the year was.

Tom Reid playing with a cheat code and making almost every defender miss was the Man of the Tournament. Supported by outstanding performances from the likes of Ben Winnick, Hal Kennedy and Behzad Khalid.

The squad showed great resilience to come through in tough games Vs Gordon’s and St John’s School, managing the games well and taking the points on offer. A huger turnaround from the previous years results in the corresponding tournament and puts us in an exciting place with a focus of getting out of our Rosslyn Park group and into a second day!

U14 – Surrey Plate Quarterfinalists

The U14s had a double battle at their recent Surrey tournament having to battle both the opposition and the snowy conditions for what should be a game played in the sunshine! They demonstrated great resilience and personal motivation to continually brace the cold and put in some good performances against some tough opposition. Players of the tournament went to Tom Gillions, Dennis Vehbi and Milo Mogford with special mentions to Theo Barber and Digby Evans.

Eventually the cold took its toll and with a few players having to withdraw through injury we punched ourselves out against Wimbledon College in the Quarter Finals of the Plate. However there is potential shown within the squad who are now turning their efforts and full attention to their debut performances at the Rosslyn Park Seven’s.
