Lady Anne Dacre established Emanuel in 1594 for the purpose of educating ’20 poor boys and girls’. Her donation set the school in motion and we are built on a foundation of her benefaction. Over the years Emanuel pupils, buildings and activities have been supported by donors; indeed the seismic shifts in the school’s development have always come with outside help. It is the same today; we can do a lot ourselves and we will continue to do so, but to meet our ambitious aims we need your support.

You can choose below which of our charitable goals you would like your gift to support. If you would like to let us know more about your intentions and the impact you would like your gift to have, please contact us at development@emanuel.org.uk. Thank you so much for choosing to support Emanuel; every donation makes a difference.

Transformative Free Places (bursaries)

The Transformative Free Places appeal seeks to ensure aspirational and talented girls and boys have an opportunity to learn and grow at Emanuel, regardless of financial circumstance. Our ambition is to reach 43 fully funded places by the school’s 430th anniversary in 2024. Find out more here.

Estate development

From its foundation, Emanuel has benefited from financial support and benefaction. The excellent facilities enjoyed by the current pupils are a direct result of the generosity and support of previous pupils and their families. We have ambitious plans for the development of our educational and sporting facilities but we need your help. Find out more here.

Community and partnerships

We currently work with over 20 local primary schools with an average of 50% of pupils on Free School Meals, compared to a national average of 14%. The aim of our outreach is to improve these pupils’ educational experience and support social mobility in our local area. Through the Primary Ambitions programme, we also want to give our own students the chance to test their leadership skills and broaden their horizons by teaching an exciting educational programme to pupils in our partner schools. We rely on donations to support our outreach and would welcome your support. Find out more about our partnerships here.

Departmental support

We have a number of projects that fall outside of the annual school budget. Historically we have been able to offer more opportunities to our pupils and parents through the generous support of our alumni, current parents and friends of the school. Current projects we are raising money for include the establishment of a centre of excellence for rock and pop and improving technology in Music. There is also the opportunity to dedicate a seat in the Fiennes Theatre.
