This year, 18 pupils from Years 8 and 9 took part in our long-standing exchange programme with a grammar school in Hamburg, Germany.

This is a tradition at Emanuel School and some of the participants have already visisted their host family for the second time, with many agreeing on future mutual visits. We spent seven busy days in Germany exploring Hamburg by foot, bus and even boat. The highlights of the trip were our visit to the ‘Elbphilharmonie’ and a trip to a theme park in Lower Saxony.

The pupils had the opportunity to attend some lessons and get an insight of how a day in school looks like in Germany. Their knowledge of the German language was tested continuously and they successfully managed to get around. The pupils’ impeccable behaviour was praised by their guest families and appreciated by the German teachers.

Miss Dittmer (German and French teacher)

“I really enjoyed the German exchange. One of my favourite trips was when we went to Heide Park. It was really fun going on all the scary rides with my friends. I really liked the German Exchange and it was a really good learning experience for me.” – quote from one of the attending pupils
