There are 144 pupils in year 7 (11+), divided into six forms of 24. 48 pupils move up into year 7 (11+) , where they are joined by 96 successful year 7 (11+) pupils.
What will the entry process look like?
For pupils applying for September 2025 entry, the assessment timeline will be as shown in the ‘key dates’ below.
Following completion of the registration form, we ask parents to submit a copy of their child’s last full school year report. We will also request a reference from their current headteacher (or equivalent) – we will contact the school directly for this during the autumn term.
Towards the end of the autumn term, applicants will sit entrance exams in Maths, English and verbal reasoning.
Following the written assessments, we interview a high percentage of those applying to the school – probably more than many schools – yet these interviews will come after the formal written assessments and be dependent on a pupil’s performance in the entrance exams.
In addition to the interview, applicants will take part in a group experience. This is designed to allow the pupils to demonstrate their creative skills and their ability to work effectively as a member of a small team. We are hopeful that the children will find this element of the assessment process enriching and enjoyable.

Key dates for year 7 (11+) 2025 entry
From September 2024: Scholarship and bursary forms become available to download from the school website on this page. Please do not submit a scholarship or bursary application before registering the candidate.
Friday 18th October 2024, midday: Deadline for acceptance of registrations.
Friday 18th October 2024, midday: Deadline for receipt of educational psychologist reports (if applicable), which are required to assess if a candidate qualifies for extra time or the use of a computer in the entrance exams.
Friday 18th October 2024, midday: Deadline for receipt of a copy of the applicant’s end of year 5 school report. Please note this is not sent by the primary/prep school – it must be sent by the parents and a copy can be posted as soon as it is received. Please do not scan and email as a hard copy is required.
Friday 1st November 2024: Deadline for receipt of scholarship and fee assistance applications. All sections of the application must be received by this date, including references.
Friday 29th November 2024: Year 7 (11+) entrance exam. Details of exact timings will be sent to applicants in November. There will be a reserve date – please enquire about this if needed.
Saturday 18th, Monday 20th and Wednesday 22nd January 2025: Interview and group experience. Invitations to attend will be sent via email in early January.
Thursday 13th February 2025: Result letters sent by first class post. The outcome of applications will also be confirmed by email on Friday 14th February.
Week beginning Monday 25th February 2025: Offer holder events.
Wednesday 5th March 2025, midday: Acceptance deadline.

Friendly tips for a smooth application process
Please ensure that the contact details we hold (especially email) are up to date. Please ring the admissions office to check if in doubt, otherwise there is a risk you will miss crucial information which is sent via email. The offers are sent by post; if you move address, please let us know or the letter will be sent to an old address.
When possible, please submit with good time before a deadline. There may be a delay in acknowledgement due to a last minute rush.
If you wish to withdraw a candidate, please email the admissions office and we can remove them from the list.
Exam concessions
If you are seeking special exam arrangements of any kind (including extra time or use of a computer), the child’s educational psychologist’s report must be sent in when requested. This must be under two years old.
Exam concession requests are reviewed in line with the requirements of the ‘Joint Council for Qualifications’; they will only be awarded if the pupil would be granted the concessions in external formal exams. The headmaster’s decision on exam concession requests is final. The school will confirm in writing which, if any, special arrangements will be made for the candidate. Candidates must bring the letter of confirmation to the entrance exam.
If your child has an educational psychologist’s report you must supply this information if you accept the offer of a place.
Specimen papers
There are no specimen verbal reasoning papers available. We have devised our own verbal reasoning exams based on GL assessment papers, which are available to purchase online or in many bookshops.
