We are delighted to announce that Emanuel School has won the Talk Education Award 2024 for ‘Innovation in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.’

We were selected from a national shortlist of the following schools: ACS Egham International School (Surrey), Canford (Dorset), Edgbaston High School for Girls (West Midlands), Queen Margaret’s School (North Yorkshire).

Teddy Wolstenholme, Editorial Director of Talk Education, commented in the award letter: “It was no easy task whittling down our shortlist and choosing our winners. We were really keen to make our awards different, and instead of replicating the same old categories you’ve seen time and time again, we wanted to give space and a platform to schools who are really forging ahead with innovative ideas and initiatives. We are really impressed by the work of the Archer Group, PRISM and the Athena Society and their efforts to break down barriers and forge connections with both the local community and other schools. We are thrilled to be able to help you celebrate this.”

It is particularly gratifying that our important work in this area, through our key pupil voice groups, has been recognised at a national level.

A good example of the undoubted impact this work has had, is reflected through student feedback: Luca, a recent OE, was asked of what he most proud from his time at Emanuel:

My proudest achievement from my time at school is my pupil voice work. As I’ve progressed through the school and got involved in a multitude of Archer group work externally and internally, it has given me self-confidence and been a source of pride. After assemblies when I have presented or given speeches, I was always so grateful to hear positive feedback from peers and members of staff, who never failed to emphasise the importance of the work I was a part of and the impact it has on many younger Emanuel students, some of whom are in similar positions to myself. Knowing that the time and effort I put into something I was passionate about will have such a lasting impact on school life, is something I will never forget.
