Last week we celebrated European Day of Languages with a Spanish feast at lunch.

The dishes on offer included a traditional Spanish cold soup salmorejo and those brave enough to sample this dish said it was delicious. For the main course we offered a choice of several dishes to allow the pupils to sample a bigger range of tasty treats. There was albóndigas en salsa de tomate (meatballs in tomato sauce), fideua (a Catalan style paella with a twist as it included pasta instead of rice) and tortilla de patatas (a tasty potato omelette).

To accompany the main courses we served a selection of side dishes including pisto (ratatouille style vegetables), patatas españolas con ajo y pimentón dulce (a deliciously smoky roast potato) and espinacas con garbanzos (spinach with chickpeas). For dessert there was quesillo canario, which is a Canary Island style egg custard, and for the less adventurous we had barras de avena con chocolate (chocolate chip flapjacks).  The colourful menu complemented the red and yellow of the Spanish flag and decorations which helped to create a fiesta atmosphere.

We have a few more themed days planned so watch out in the coming weeks for a taste to India and a trip to Mexico.
