Welcome to the Emanuel website.

Emanuel School is a co-educational, independent school founded in 1594. At the time Lady Dacre wrote that one of the main aims of the Foundation was 'for the bringing up of children in virtue and good and laudable arts so that they might better live in time to come by their honest labour'.

Today, Emanuel is also committed to

  • promoting independent thought and a life long curiosity for learning
  • the pursuit of academic excellence
  • providing a broad based education enabling all pupils to discover their strengths, develop their individual talents and prepare for higher education and adult life
  • providing supportive pastoral care that nurtures health and well being, emotional maturity and spiritual richness
  • engendering respect, tolerance and understanding of the importance of caring for others and the environment

The charitable object of the Foundation is the provision of education with a Christian ethos and this is why Emanuel has a School Chaplain and why Chapel, in the middle of the day, is part of daily life.

For further information, current parents should click on the “Parents” button to the left. If you are an Old Emanuel, please click on the “Alumni” button which will take you into a secure area for O.Es. Prospective parents and pupils may wish to click on the “Admissions” button or the “Prospectus” button to find out more about the school. You can also contact us by email or order a printed prospectus on line.

Members of the local community may wish to click on the “Community” button for news about cultural events which are open to the public and about our heated indoor swimming pool. Note that the secure area for pupils is located on the school intranet and cannot be accessed via this website.

I hope we have provided something for everyone with an interest in Emanuel School. If not – please let me know and I will do my best to improve our service. Finally, if you are an OE, and have not visited Emanuel recently, or a prospective parent, please get in contact with our main reception desk and we will arrange a visit for you at a mutually convenient time. However much effort we have put into this website - this is no substitute for seeing the real thing!
