Best Oxbridge results for two decades, and sustained growth in performance

Huge congratulations to our leavers on their results day!

Ofqual’s letter in September 2022 clarified that this summer would see a return to ‘pre-pandemic’ grading. (2019 and before)

Within this context and set against the pre-pandemic A level outcomes of 2019 and before, our 2023 leavers (a cohort 50% larger than the one seen 5 years ago, and a third larger than in 2019) have achieved very strong outcomes, gaining Oxbridge, Russell Group, leading university and specialist college places.

It also means that they have continued the pattern of A Level results improving year on year (in non- pandemic impacted years) from 2017, with over half of all results graded A*-A.

 Key points:

  • 9 pupils have gained Oxbridge places;
  • 42 pupils (more than a quarter of the year group) achieved 100% A*-A grades;
  • 8 pupils achieved A* grades in all their subjects;
  • 115 pupils completed an Extended Project Qualification, with 32% achieving A*. 90 pupils secured A* or A grades;
  • Taken together, GCE qualifications stand at 53.7% graded A/A*, higher than any pre-pandemic year;
  • Over 85% have been awarded their choice of university place with 76% opting for Russell Group institutions and 84% to top tier universities including Bath and St Andrews;
  • 32% of offers were for STEM subjects;

Individual Successes

Oxbridge: Congratulations to our Oxbridge applicants, some of whom are pictured here, for their outstanding success in achieving nine places, the highest number in Emanuel history.

Success extracurricular and academic: A huge well done to Hal, one of our U6 leavers today celebrating outstanding A level results. As well as working hard to achieve four A* grades, Hal has shown huge commitment to the school’s rugby programme and has represented the Harlequins U18 academy. We wish him very well at Edinburgh where he has a place to study Mathematics.

Siblings: Jack and Molly are a great example of sibling success at Emanuel! Celebrating stellar A level grades, they will shortly be off to St Andrews and Oxford respectively, to begin degree courses in Computer Science and English Language and Literature.  We wish them and all our U6 leavers the very best for the next steps in their education.

We’re delighted to celebrate today with Ben and Ben, displaying well-deserved smiles after achieving a clutch of top grades between them.  Congratulations to them and all our U6 leavers for their hard work.

Congratulations to U6 leavers Matilda, Freya and Daria, who demonstrate the incredible hard work and breadth of talents of our U6 leavers.  Matilda is off to Birmingham to study Medicine, Freya to Edinburgh to read English Literature and History, and Daria will be starting a course in French and Hebrew at Oxford University.
