This year saw the return of the charity netball match wherein the first netball team takes on the first rugby team in a nail biting competition. Attendance and support from students and staff were at an all time high. The boys put up a good fight but ultimately they were bested by the netballers.
We also had the first iteration of the charity football match – where those same first rugby boys take on the first football team. The weather was crisp and cool with a light breeze and some sunshine which help keep everyone’s spirits high. Organiser, goalkeeper, and charity prefect Lucas had this to say about the match: There was action on both ends on the pitch in a fantastic show of football as the rugby boys and the football boys were eager to maintain their pride in what would be their final appearances with the Emanuel shirts. With the score 2-2 at full time in an evenly split contest, it came down to penalties. Tensions were high as the penalty score reached 5-5, taking the penalties to sudden death. After the football boys missed the path was open for an underdog rugby team victory, an opportunity which was not missed as the rugby boys slotted theirs away to grab a victory by the thinnest of margins.
