Eco Week 2025
This year’s Emanuel School’s Eco Week was a resounding success, showcasing the school’s commitment to environmental responsibility and collective action. The week-long event featured a range of activities designed to inspire both pupils and staff to adopt sustainable practices and deepen their environmental awareness.
Highlights of Eco Week Activities
- Plastics Upcycling Junior Expo
The week kicked off with the lower school students taking part in a student led Plastics Upcycling Junior Expo, creatively transforming discarded plastics into new, useful herb planters to celebrate being able to get back into the eco garden. - Environmental Design Competition
The school hosted an environmental design competition that challenged pupils to devise solutions for real-world ecological issues. The competition was fierce, with a tie break between two candidates. Year 7 student Laith was the overall winner, with an innovative idea to protect trees from wild fires. Well done Laith! - Eco Committee’s Pop-Up Refill Shop
The Eco Committee ran their pop-up refill shop, Emanuel Express, providing the school community with access to environmentally friendly products and promoting the reduction of single-use plastics. Look out for our next pop up at Dacre day! - Year 9 Talk on Sustainable Career Options
Year 9 students attended an informative talk on sustainable career pathways, broadening their perspectives on future opportunities in the green economy. This aligns with Emanuel’s broader commitment to preparing students for careers that contribute positively to society and the environment. - School wide assembly focus
- Students explored the complex relationship between artificial intelligence and environmental sustainability, examining both the promise and the peril that AI brings to the fight against climate change.
- Eco Reading Focus in the Library
Finally, the school library curated a special eco-themed reading focus, encouraging students to explore environmental topics through literature. Supporting the development of environmental literacy and inspired further inquiry into sustainability issues.
