Last weekend, Niclas Baker (OE 2006-11) competed in the 400m at the Muller British Athletics Championship.

2018 and 2019 have been very busy years on the track for Niclas and since June he has been sprinting in Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Germany and Switzerland, as well as meetings in the UK. He recently set a new personal best for the 400m and has previously clocked 10.79 in the 100m, 21.04 in the 200m and 46.46 seconds (his top mark) in the 400m.

This is a very exciting time for Niclas as earlier in August he was named in the 54 strong British team which competed in the European Team Championships Super League in Bydgoszcz, Poland and was part of the winning mixed 4x400m Relay team. Earlier in July he was second in the Inter-County Championships (Inc England Athletics Senior Championships) where he clocked his new personal best time, all of which are incredible achievements for the talented 24-year-old.

This should come as no surprise as Niclas was an outstanding all-round schoolboy athlete who represented Wandsworth at the London Schools’ Championships in both the hurdles and the high jump. From a young age he was obviously very talented and could run the 100 meter hurdles in 13.79 seconds whilst still at school. Jumping to the next level, Niclas represented ‘London’ in the England Schools National Event where he also took part in the hurdles. Along the way he competed in many other athletic meetings including the National Combined Events Championship and the United Westminster Schools Foundation Athletics event where he won the ‘Inter Boys’ section. All these junior successes were the building blocks for what is developing into a great career on the track. Well done Niclas!
