AMAISEing Prompt Writing Competition

We are keen for pupils to actively engage in writing great prompts that assist them in their learning. Therefore, we now run an annual “AMAISEing” prompt writing competition for pupils in the sixth form. This competition encourages pupils to share great prompts they have written to help them learn or revise their individual subjects, as well as a reflection on why the prompt is educationally beneficial. The winning prompts from this competition are then published to staff and pupils, helping to further evidence what best practice looks like and assist the next generation of Emanuel pupils in their utilisation of AI.

Some winning prompts from this year’s competition are below:

Art: You are an expert in contemporary art, archival practices, and material culture, with a strong understanding of how artists use collections and found objects to tell stories. I want you to find high-quality online sources—articles, exhibition pages, artist interviews, or research papers—that explore how artists engage with personal or historical archives, family collections, or found objects to construct narratives. This research is for an A-level art student in the UK who is working on a project about family collections and objects that tell stories. The project examines how material culture preserves memories, identity, and history. I am particularly interested in artists who work with salvaged materials, personal archives, photography, printmaking, or sculptural installations. The sources should include:
– Artist case studies (e.g., Theaster Gates, Mark Dion, Cornelia Parker, or others with relevant practices)
– Exhibitions or projects that focus on objects as storytelling devices
– Essays or critical writing on how collections shape personal and collective memory
Before compiling links, ask me any clarifying questions to refine the search. Prioritise reputable sources, museum or gallery websites, academic articles, and interviews with artists.

Biology: I am studying Biology OCR A A-level. I am studying the heart and circulation currently, but I don’t understand ECG traces and the cardiac cycle. Please identify key terms and define them, and then explain the cardiac cycle. Then please provide 5 quick questions to test my knowledge and understanding.

Economics: You are an Edexcel A-level Economics teacher in the UK. Create 10 short questions on macroeconomic policies for a Year 12 student, focusing on fiscal, monetary, and supply-side policies. Please may these questions test whether or not i use key economic language for securing marks in an exam. Before proceeding, can you ask me some clarifying questions about question length, depth of knowledge, and specific syllabus areas if needed. Please Provide feedback on my answers, highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement to help me prepare effectively for the exam.

Mathematics: I am having trouble understanding the concepts behind [insert topic] in my Edexcel A-level mathematics course. To assist me, complete the following tasks:

  1. Clarify my level of understanding of [insert topic] (through a series of 3 questions).
  2. Break down the example question provided at the end of this prompt into identifiable and repeatable steps.
  3. Provide a real-world analogy for the question to help provide context and to help me remember.

Break each task into individual responses, waiting for affirmation that it has been completed before moving on.

Congratulations to the winners of the Prompt Writing Competition – Sam and Manasseh (Y12).
