The fourth meeting of the Archer Advisory Group took place yesterday evening.
The group (named in honour of John Richard Archer, former Mayor of Battersea and the first black person to hold a senior public office in London) is an important voice within Emanuel and comprises school staff from across all employee positions and pupils of different ages and backgrounds. Its task is to review the school’s curriculum, structures and population, through the lenses of the diverse members of the Emanuel community.
In the latest meeting, Mr Buxton reported back on plans for diversity-focused activity days in the summer term, Mr Skinner presented his thoughts on ‘cultural competency’ and Mrs Brown sought the views of pupils on how small changes in the curriculum might make a big difference. Miranda Barclay (Upper Sixth) chaired a very productive pupil discussion on the issues raised and also suggested ways in which the profile of the group might be raised within the school community.
