OE 1973-78

Mark Baker is probably best known for being one of the co-creators of the phenomenally popular children’s TV series, Peppa Pig. The first episode aired on Channel 5 in 2004 and the series has gone on to achieve global success.

Mark joined Emanuel in Year 9 and later went on to St Martin’s for his Art Foundation. After working at the London animation studio, Richard Purdum Productions, he spent five years studying animation at the National Film & Television School, Beaconsfield alongside fellow student Nick Park, the creator of Wallace and Gromit.

Although Mark is best known for Peppa Pig, many of his other works have been critically acclaimed across the world. Mark has been nominated for three Oscars, all in the Best Short Film (Animated) category for The Hill Farm (1990), The Village (1994) and Jolly Roger (1999). The Hill Farm won the Grand Prize at the Annecy Animation Festival in 1989. He also won the BAFTA for The Hill Farm and has won several BAFTAs for Peppa Pig and Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom over the years.

Mark is one of three partners in the London based animation studio, Astley Baker Davies.

Some of his films have been restored and preserved by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Archive, California.
