The Emanuel 1st XI competed against Kingston Grammar School last week.

Kingston Grammar won the toss and decided to bat first with tight spells at the top from Billy Hughes and Ivan Barker preventing Kingston from getting off to a strong start. An incredible spell from Sacha Banks, taking 2 wickets for 8 runs in his 4 overs, left Emanuel in a strong position heading into the second half of the innings.

Some strong fielding, including an outstanding catch from Ben Thesiger, left Kingston on 101 with 4 overs remaining. Tight spells continued for Billy and Ivan, with the last 4 overs picking up 6 wickets, halting a final attack from Kingston leaving them on 129-9 off of their 20 overs. Aggressive batting at the top from Ben Thesiger with Nancy Hughes holding strong at the other end put Emanuel on 48 when Ben’s wicket fell after 5 and a half overs. Emanuel followed with captain Sinan Mahmud who was later joined by Will Ellis when Nancy fell in the tenth over, who both batted calmly, with Sinan scoring 26 and Will scoring 32, remaining comfortably above the run rate for the remainder of the innings.

The game finished as Emanuel chased down Kingston’s score 2 wickets down.
