Last week was the annual Emanuel European Week of Languages, held to coincide with the European Day of Languages on Thursday 26th September. The theme for 2024 was ‘Languages for Peace’, so pupils were invited to reflect on how linguistic diversity can be explored to achieve greater intercultural understanding and celebrate the cultural heritage of our continent.
A wide range of activities were held in- and outside the classroom, including quizzes, translating jokes, code-breaking and more. The Lower School enjoyed a themed home clothes day on Thursday where they had to dress in the colours of a European flag. On Friday, the rain didn’t stop a sellout crowd for the charity bake sale raising money for Unicef. Students were also invited to take part in a ‘design a t shirt’ competition, which was won by Paige (Year 7) in the Lower School and Amina Arkallayeva (Year 12) in the Upper School (designs below).
