In the third, and final group match, we played Ibstock who had recently beaten Wimbledon High School with ease. Having made an uncharacteristically poor start, Lucy and Sam dominated their opposite numbers, and produced some astonishing solutions. Cal, playing a year above himself, and making his debut, held his nerve and consistently demonstrated that he is an outstanding mathematician who can cope with pressure. In Farhan, we have one of the most enthusiastic, hardworking and able students that I can recall, and once again, he was far too strong for his opponent. Unlike our previous two matches, this was a rather one-sided affair which we comfortably won with the highest score that Emanuel has ever achieved.

Final score: Emanuel 40, Ibstock Place 23.

For only the second time, Emanuel has qualified for the knock-out stage of the competition which is a fantastic achievement, and one that the team should be very proud of.

Finally, we wish Lucy luck this week with her interview to read mathematics at Cambridge!
