At the end of August, Kate was delighted to be sponsored by Outdoor Welsh Events to race for them in the youth Dawn to Dusk event. Dawn to Dusk is the longest and toughest cross-country motorcycle race in the country, and the youth race is 2 hours over rough and challenging countryside.
Kate made it to the finish and, despite crashing and losing her gear lever on the penultimate lap, she came 7th out of 13 in her class, and 25th out of 45 overall.
It was an incredibly tough event with lots of crashes and tumbles and broken bikes. The terrain was dusty, rocky and hilly and a real challenge for the bikes and riders. Kate had a GPS tracker fitted to her bike so her pit crew could monitor her progress on the 7 mile circuit. At one point she reached a top speed of 41mph – absolutely amazing given the terrain!
Kate used the event as an opportunity to race money for Ruby’s ‘Live Kindly Live Loudly’ fund, which is a special named fund at CCLG. Ruby was the sister of one Kate’s school friends and she died from leukaemia aged 18. Kate raised an amazing £950.
