Thursday 1st October marks this year’s National Poetry Day and the 2020 theme is ‘vision’.
Pupils were invited to write haikus about vision for an Emanuel competition. The best haikus were shown on screens around the school, with prizes for the best in each year group. Take a look at the winners’ entries below.
We would also like to invite parents and families to join in and write their own haikus on this year’s theme. Entries can be sent to Mr Healy at sean.healy@emanuel.org.uk.

See the crystal ball,
Robots vs humans at war!
How long do we have?

Hawk’s acute optics,
Pinpoints prey efficiently.
Clarity sublime.
Mia Saltissi 6CB
Eyes blink the future
Forests destroyed climate change
The world is broken
Leela Davies 7MM
Deep in the darkness,
I catch a glimpse of the sky.
A new beginning.
Violet D-A 7MM
Crawling through tunnels,
Blindly furrowing through dirt,
Waddling a long way.
Zac Victory 8AFH
King of the far sky
soars through the feisty, strong wind,
Watching from miles away.
Isabella Gribbon 8AFH
We had a vision.
Locked down and nowhere to go.
Covid changed it all.
Emma Brydon 9PAK
Gazing out the gap.
Tell me, what can you see now?
Life; taking its breath.
