Last Saturday, Rossy Adams (OE) came in to run a pewter casting workshop with our Year 10 to Upper Sixth art scholars.
Rossy left Emanuel in 2012 and attended an Art Foundation course at UCA: Epsom before furthering her studies on the Artist Designer: Maker (BAHons) degree course at Cardiff Metropolitan University. She is currently continuing her own practice as well as working as a designer jeweller.
Rossy gave a fascinating talk about her creative journey after leaving Emanuel, explaining how she had discovered working with metal during her foundation course and how it led to her working with a wide variety of materials at degree level. It was during her degree course that she made a bowl which combined bronze and pewter and which her tutors had told her was impossible to make, but this gave her the courage to experiment with materials and succeed.
With Rossy’s guidance our students sketched out their designs before simplifying and making their own moulds and moving on to casting in pewter, with lovely results. Thank you to Rossy and very well done to our senior scholars who should be very proud of the pieces they made.
