Beauty and the Beast, this year’s school musical, opened on Wednesday night and is being enthusiastically received by audiences.

Scenic Arts student Emma Tubiermont (OE2017-22) is Costume Designer for the production.

Here’s what Emma wrote in the programme about her involvement:

“From an outsider’s perspective, what I am doing this year might look a bit insane. Doing a full-time scenic arts university course and then dressing ~70 cast members in 18th century-style clothing on the weekends is SLIGHTLY chaotic, some may say. Only a tiny bit. But the past few months have been as much rewarding as they have been challenging. Out of all the Emanuel productions I have costumed for, Beauty and the Beast has probably been the most interesting to work on in terms of making the costumes. I am currently buried in a pile of plywood and polystyrene, building all of the props for Cogsworth, Lumiere and the other main object-characters. My favourite out of these pieces so far are the Beast’s claw gloves, as well as Cogsworth’s winding key. If I manage to pull off this crazy set of costumes (I believe in myself), I know that watching the shows will be incredibly rewarding, and I can’t wait for audiences to see it. Having had the first fitting with our main cast and seeing how excited all of the actors are to embody their characters, I know the show will be one to remember.”
