On Saturday 17th September the Art Department ran two workshops.
Lucia Spinelli Williams worked with our Junior art scholars on a screen printing workshop. Students learnt how to cut their stencils and print using screens. It is a complex process and our students handled the media with skill, making their own designs and printing onto tote bags.
Senior scholars took part in a portrait painting workshop with artist Michael Chance. Michael is a practising artist who also tutors at the Royal Drawing School. He explained different processes of portrait painting examining Old Master paintings through to the works of Matisse and Derain. During the workshop they worked from a portrait model and learnt how to use oil paint, mixing a wide range of colours and working with thin layers of paint before adding thicker paint and using more gestural brushstrokes.
Both workshops gave our students an exciting opportunity to work with media for the four hour workshops.
Many thanks to Lucia Spinelli-Williams and Michael Chance for delivering these workshops.
