The Emanuel French Department welcomed a group of French linguists from Greycoat Hospital School, Pimlico to the inaugural meeting of the collaborative French Reading Group on Thursday 5th May.

Twenty students across Year 11 and Sixth Form came together to discuss Marguerite Duras’ award-winning novel, L’Amant (1984) and to read excerpts for analysis. The discussion was lively, with interesting, intelligent insights from many of the participants. Greycoat students injected an impressive level of sophistication to the conversation, which was well-matched by the perceptive comments of the Emanuel Sixth Formers. It was a great success and very enjoyable – a very positive collaboration between Emanuel and one of our Westminster Foundation partner schools.

The group plans to meet half-termly with the next excerpt to be taken from Colette’s Chéri.
