At the crack of dawn on the first day of the Easter break, teachers met Emanuel pupils at Clapham Junction to get the train to Gatwick for what would be a memorable flight to Chambery, France. We were embarking on the Y8&9 ski trip to La Plange for 7 nights of sun, snow and skiing and though tired, spirits were high. After a bumpy flight, we were soon at the hotel with views looking out to Mont Blanc. Pupils quickly sorted their ski kit, had a delicious dinner followed by an early night ahead of the first day on the slopes. We were pleased to be greeted with fresh snow in the morning which promised excellent skiing conditions. Pupils were then split into their ski school groups who were led by Stefan, Valerie and Valerie. We cannot thank the instructors enough for their support of pupils; for encouraging them, pushing them when it got hard and offering some stellar guidance on how to improve. On the first day, we celebrated Amelie’s (Y8) birthday which of course involved cake!

Aside from ski lessons, pupils went bowling (a huge congratulations to Emily for beating all the teachers!), made fresh pizzas, had waffles with cream and chocolate sauce (probably the favourite après ski activity for most), participated in the quiz and enjoyed the disco and awards ceremony on the final evening. Congratulations to all our pupils who won awards for their resilience, for helping others, for making the most progress on the slopes and for taking great photos!

“The ski trip was amazing and I think all of us feel similarly. We had such a fun time skiing down the mountain with our friends and even more, after skiing, at the après ski events where the activities were fun and entertaining, the bowling was great, the quiz night was very entertaining. One thing I personally liked a lot were Mr Ashton’s Harry Potter speeches.  Let’s also not forget the trips with friends to Spar for snacks. Thank you very much for a wonderful ski trip.” – Max, Year 9

“What I enjoyed most about the ski trip was the evenings in the common room where we did lots of fun activities. I also really enjoyed skiing with my friends, it was very fun and relaxing and having an instructor guiding us was also very helpful. I felt the trip was organised very well and that I could socialise with everyone, it was a good way to spend the Easter holidays.” – Katya, Year 9

“The Emanuel Ski Trip to La Plagne was an amazing experience for me and my friends. Not only were the instructors kind and helpful, but they also helped me to progress in my skiing abilities as well, including a range of turns, jumps and control. The hotel was also a highlight because of the delicious food and bar where you could play pool. Most of all though, I enjoyed learning to ski for the first time and the intense snowball fights we had along the way. I wouldn’t change anything about this trip as it was tremendously fun with all the activities such as bowling, Quiz night and even a disco. Thank you to all the teachers who made this trip so special.” – Thomas, Year 8

Thank you to all the teachers who supported this trip and made it both an enjoyable and memorable week in the mountains.
