The last month has been a busy time for the boat club with Women’s Head of the River, Men’s Head of the River, Schools Head of the river and the Scullery.

These events had 330 – 450 crews competing across all year groups from Yr 9 – Yr 13.

Our seniors started off the month by competing in Women’s Head of the River where we finished a strong 26th in J18 eights and 134th out 332 crews.  A few weeks later the men’s squad had an exceptional run down the course coming away with solid 104th out of 336 and 4th in their category at Men’s Head.

These races were a great practice leading into the prestigious Schools Head of the River. The girls first eight had a fantastic race with some of the country’s top programs coming away 6th in their category and 26th overall out of all the girls’ events. The boys eight were not far behind, chasing the likes of St Pauls and Hampton School, coming away with 6th in their category and 28th overall Out of all the boys’ events. We then had our boys champ quad finishing 29th in their category in a tough event and the girl’s 2nd eight coming away with 7th in schoolgirl 2nd eights. Then to finish of the day we had our WJ15 eight demonstrated how hard they have worked this season with a strong 13th in their event.

Our J14’s and J15’s finished off our head season with some outstanding results at the Scullery. The Boat club had six boats racing across the J14 and J15s squads. Our J15 girls squad finished 22nd overall with a 22-place jump from last year and the J14 girls placed 16th, with a 12-place increase. Our boys in both squads had a strong performance with the J15’s coming 38th and the J14’s finishing off the day with a solid 29th.

Looking ahead, ESBC is excited to see how the squads will transition to shorter regatta-style races for the summer!
