The Hampden Hall came alive on Tuesday evening for the school’s Autumn Term concert, named after the patron saint of music and musicians, St Cecilia.
All the school’s major music ensembles performed and delighted a packed audience with an eclectic range of music. The symphony orchestra began proceedings with Purcell’s Rondeau from Abdelazer and Scheherazade composed by Rimsky-Korsakov. There were some delightful offerings from our smaller groups – Senior Strings, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, Concert Band – and three solo performances by our House Music winners.
Parents also enjoyed hearing our three rock bands in advance of their gig at the Half Moon in Putney next Sunday. The concluding part of the concert was given over to an extended medley from Les Misérables by the 80-strong Emanuel Singers. The pupils are to be congratulated on their impressive performances, and I should like to thank the music department staff for preparing the ensembles so assiduously for this event.
