On Monday evening the 1st XI took on a staff XI in a much anticipated cricket match.

The pupils started very strongly with the bat, they were 50 without loss after the first two overs as the groundsmen and deputy head were punished for some loose bowling. Slowly but surely experience began to tell with Mr Leigh and Mr White bowling with mystery, skill and tenacity. At the half way point the boys had posted 166 with runs from Winnick and Reid, amongst others.

The staff started strongly in the chase before quickly wilting to 40 for 4 after 4 overs. Enter Mr Martin and Mr Scott who shared an exciting partnership: the boundaries were peppered. When they fell, Mr Leadbetter took over crashing three almighty sixes, but wickets continued to tumble as the pupils caught well in the outfield. It came down to the last wicket pair of Mr Clark and Mr Rogers who, oblivious to the pressure, nudged and nurdled the teachers over the line for a one wicket victory.

Thank you to Mr Booth and Mr Gaynor for organising the staff: they could not be happier to be ending their time at Emanuel with success!
