Since last summer, many pupils from Years 6-8 have been involved in our ‘Eight Book Challenge’ which is part of our annual Trinity School Book Award (TSBA) activities. As well as encouraging pupils to read the eight fantastic books on the list we run two annual competitions which have recently concluded.
Everybody who read the books were encouraged to write 500-700 words reviews, and for the second competition submit something creative related to one of the books, which could include posters, poetry short stories, films, or models.
The standard of entries for both competitions was incredibly high, with the best four entries being sent forward to the next stage, involving the thirty other schools participating in the TSBA. Our winners were:
Creative Response Winners
Beatrice (7MSH) Photographed twice as they show different sides of her fantastic tree model
Nico (8HAB) for his fantastic film
Review Winners
Olra (7MSH) for her review of William Sutcliffe’s ‘The Summer We Turned Green’
Charlotte (7CJR) for her review of Nadia Mikail’s ‘The Cats We Meet Along the Way’
Beatrice’s model of a tree flourishing on one side, but dead on the other beautifully captured the spirit of Lauren James’s Green Rising where children develop superpowers which can help prevent climate change. Nico’s film inspired by the Sarah Govett novel We Go On Forever is an incredibly intelligent film where the rich can prolong their lives by moving into new host bodies. His film has an unseen narrator musing about his next body (Nico!) who stares at the camera throughout the striking film. It also has clever connections to one of the other novels on the shortlist, Show Us Who You Are.
As many other pupils entered a combination of very good reviews and creative responses, we were delighted to also award six runners up prizes:
Runner Up Prizes
Poppy (8PM)
Mishka (7DOM)
Cecilia (6USC)
Grace (8PM)
Elias (6OR)
Isadora (7RDC)
Well done to all our entries and the multi-school TSBA ceremony will be available to watch online in the summer term.
Nico, Charlotte, Cecilia, Mishka and Beatrice are featured in the group photo.
