Thanks to the wonderful Mrs Craven, an Emanuel School parent and a regular volunteer, twenty-five of our Ukrainian weekly Coffee and Conversation Hub participants visited the House of Parliament on 1 July.
They were thrilled to have the opportunity to have a 75-minute tour including an explanation of the work of the UK Parliament and its relevance today; how the working spaces are used; and highlights of the dramatic history of the Palace of Westminster. One of our parents, Mrs Glotova, translated on behalf of the tour guide so everyone could enjoy the experience.
The sentiments of the group are beautifully captured by one of the participants,
‘Let me express my gratitude and admiration after visiting the Houses of Parliament. The stunning beauty of the Neo-Gothic style, the realization that you are in the place of the creation of the most critical decisions that affect the whole world, including Ukraine, and that provides us with large-scale and unprecedented help. Thank you very much for your excellent work and the warmth that radiates from your attitude towards Ukrainians.’
We are actively looking for activities for our local Ukrainian families. If you have any ideas or would like to organise an outing, please do get in touch with Lisa.irwin@emanuel.org.uk.
