On a sweltering afternoon on the 14th June, 35 Year 10 Classics students took an exciting trip to the British Museum. After a lovely picnic lunch and some exorbitantly priced ice cream, they headed inside.

In the museum they saw the famous and awe-inspiring Parthenon sculptures, including the Centauromachy and processional friezes. Students also had the excellent fortune to see the rarely-open Bassae Frieze, which shows Heracles and Theseus battling the Amazons.

In the Greek and Roman life gallery they saw trophies from the Panathenaic Games and other impressive artefacts. Finally, nearly overwhelmed by the heat of the day, but invigorated by their love of Classics, students visited the Syrian and Babylonian galleries, where they saw mosaics and sculptures from the kingdom of ancient Persia to preface their study of War and Warfare.

Accompanied by Miss Ferstman, Miss Aitken-Burt, and Miss Williams, an enriching and enjoyable day was had by all.
