We welcomed Zoe Shuttleworth from It Happens to lead the drugs and alcohol workshop which included using the latest evidence-based statics to explore the prevalence of alcohol, drugs and smoking amongst young people. Alongside giving pupils a throughout understanding of alcohol, including binge drinking, alcohol poisoning and a reminder about units and guidelines. Pupils then explored vaping including the current health and environmental concerns. Discussions followed on the risks and harm reduction measures; Zoe shared with pupils a list of free personal safety apps.
Finally, the workshop concluded with pupils discussing different scenarios looking at what is concerning, how would they response and where they may seek support and help. Should parents wish to see further information about this session they can check out the relevant firefly page here. We were so impressed with the thoughtful discussions and creative mind maps produced by pupils during the session.
