On Thursday afternoon Chantelle Nicholson, Sodexo Independent Schools and Universities Partner, and multi-award winning chef gave a Masterclass to our Year 12 students in simple one pot cooking using food that is found in everyone’s fridge or store cupboard.
She chatted to the students, while she cooked, about how she came into the catering industry, via a law degree in New Zealand, and she answered their questions on all sorts subjects from what are her favourite foods (while vegetables came at the top of her list, crisps were not far behind, after good sourdough bread and salted butter) to what is Gordon Ramsay really like and questions about how she came to care so passionately for the environment. The dishes Chantelle cooked were ‘All your greens’ fritters, kale & courgette salad, yoghurt & harissa, followed by Roast Cauliflower Wings, Zhoug and Lentils. After each course, samples of the food, cooked in the kitchen by our chefs, were brought round for the students to sample. The delicious savoury treats were rounded off with a scrumptiously moist ginger, apple and pear cake and some fruit and vegetable juices from our Hydration Station.
Chantelle then presented two of our students, Amelie and Saskia with a signed copy of her beautiful vegan cookery book ‘Planted’ for the most interesting and engaging questions of the day.
It was a great way to finish the school year and I hope all of our students have a wonderful summer!
