On the 4th and 17th June, Year 7 Latin students enjoyed a thrilling trip to Windsor.

Students strolled through Windsor Great Park, famous as a filming location from the third and fourth ‘Harry Potter’ films. We saw the beautiful Cascade Waterfall with its grotto housing various sylvanian fairies. We listened out for the sleigh bells of Cherry Tinsel, the river nymph.

We then had a MM lecture on the ruins of the temple of Leptis Magna which are situated at Windsor Great Park, as well as the labours of Hercules which once adorned its metopes. Students’ knowledge of the mythology was very impressive indeed. Mr Adams led a classical ‘pub quiz’ based on the Cambridge Latin Course and our classical studies this year.

The group then arrived in Legoland.

To prepare for our Ancient Egyptian studies, we visited the ‘Land of the Pharaohs’ and went on ‘Laser Raiders’, won by MM, as well as the deceptively named ‘Mia’s Riding Adventure’ (R), the iconic Dragon Rollercoaster, the Log Flume and more. Too many to name! The groups loved touring around together and the weather was stunning.

We then visited the ‘Mythica’ section, based on Hercules’ labours and with sections inspired by the content of the Cambridge Latin Course. We saw the Nemean Lion, Fluttermouse, Hydra and Chimera LEGO models, and took a ride on the world’s only 4D flying theatre – ‘The Flight of the Sky Lion’ – a thrilling experience which immersed us in the world of Ancient Greece. One student said, ‘It felt like I really was Hercules!’

After a quick shopping spree at the gift shop, we boarded the coach back to Emanuel, with memories to last a lifetime.

Thank you to Mr Adams, Miss Aitken-Burt, Mr Bowler, Mr Clarke, Miss Ferstman, Ms Hoult, Mrs Limon, Mr McKenzie, Mr MacDonagh, Ms Philp, Miss Wells and Mrs Chetwood for their help on both trips.

Venimus, vidimus, vicimus!
