On 19th November and 27th November, Year 9 Latin students visited Bath for an unforgettable day out.
Following an abridged coach journey, students had a chance to explore the Roman Baths already familiar from lessons, viewing the steamy (R) waters of the main bath heated by the natural springs. They also visited the sauna (tepidarium), gymnasium and cold plunge pool (frigidarium), in addition to reading the various curse tablets etched with embittered engravings of Romans cursing their enemies.
We interacted with the various ‘Romans’ talking about their daily life around the main bath, and enjoyed the Christmassy shops and boutique stores on the high street. The city was familiar to students as a filming location from the hit film ‘Wonka’.
Speaking of which, Mr Morrison was in attendance, stocking up on Lush products and visiting the stationers, composing various festive greetings to his pals.
We visited the lovely gift shop and had a short break for lunch. Mr Adams led a tour round the city, in which students visited the River Avon running under picturesque Pulteney Bridge, the Circus and the Royal Crescent. The Christmas Market and spectacular Christmas Tree outside the Baths got everyone into the festive spirit, as well as a visit to the fudge shop and a chance to pick up a few souvenirs from the trip.
Very well done to all students on their fantastic behaviour and conduct in Bath.
Until the next time, o thermae, o mores!
Mr Adams, Head of Classics
