At the end of last half term, Mr. Buxton and the science department took the whole of Year 9 to the New Scientist Live exhibition at the Excel centre. Students enjoyed a variety of talks from scientists at the top of their field including ‘Why wasps matter’, ‘Seeing the invisible universe’ and ‘Delightful discoveries and excellent accidents’. They also got stuck into an array of interactive sessions which included the future of medical care, where pupils could have a play with surgical robots and the potential use of 3D printed organs for future patients. There were also virtual reality simulations of the deep oceans and models to show how climate change could be bringing parasitic infections closer to home. We travelled on public transport to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible which meant we got to ride the new Elizabeth Line, so there really was something for everyone!
