The year 9 U14B rugby team have won the Emanuel cake, generally due to brilliantly representing Emanuel School over the past two years and, specifically, for the efforts last weekend against St George’s Weybridge.
After winning the first half 38-0, the opposition were looking to have a very miserable day against our team. However, one of the Emanuel boys happily swapped his shirt to play on the opposition side, and then played his socks off to help their team score two tries. Our team used the second half to make an effort to give opportunities to some of the lesser talented players in our team, including managing to ensure a pupil who has played very little rugby score his first ever try.
I have never seen an opposition team have so much fun losing with a 53-12 scoreline, due to our pupils’ sportsman-like play, and this just sums up my two years coaching these boys and the positive way they have represented Emanuel against other schools.
