We have launched our parent volunteer reading scheme with Christ Church Primary, one of our partner schools.

12 Emanuel parent volunteers attended a safeguarding talk at Christ Church on Wednesday with the view of having their first reading sessions the week commencing 16 September. Christ Church is thrilled as the one-to-one time makes such a huge difference to their children’s progress.

Our partner primary schools have a high percentage of children on free school meals (the average is 44%) and even higher proportions of children with English as a second language. For a multitude of reasons, children from the most disadvantaged families are less likely to read with their parents at home. Given class sizes and limited resources, these children have few opportunities to read at school and would really benefit from your help.

We are keen to do more and Falconbrook Primary is desperate for help. If you have one hour to give each week at a time that suits your schedule between 9.00am and 3.00pm, we would love to have you involved! It is a great way to give back to the community. If reading is not your thing and you are interested in helping out with our community outreach activities in other ways (eg, music, drama, art, etc), we would also love to hear from you.

If you are interested or would like to find out more, please email Lisa Irwin, Deputy Development and Community Partnership Director at Lisa.Irwin@emanuel.org.uk.
