Our 2018/19 chess campaign finished with back-to-back victories against Southborough and Hampton.

Sadly, even though we won seven out of our eight Briant Poulter Surrey fixtures, we were still edged into second place by Sutton Grammar School who had the tiniest of ‘goal difference’ advantages over us. Many of the top chess schools play a longer version of the game (long play) than we do in this rapid play one hour style league, but whatever the style of game, the team were terrific all season and are highly competitive at this format.

  • Sutton Grammar 5.5 v Emanuel 6.5
  • Southborough School 2 v Emanuel 10
  • Hampton School 3 v Emanuel 9
  • Emanuel 4.5 v Sutton Grammar 7.5
  • Emanuel 9.5 v Whitgift School 2.5
  • Whitgift School 1 v Emanuel 11
  • Emanuel 11 v Southborough 1
  • Emanuel 9 v Hampton 3

We’ll be looking to actively recruit some new blood for next season. I would like to thank Luke (Year 11), Mackenzie (lower sixth), Charlie (Year 8), Enzo (Year 13), Pietro (upper sixth), Zeeshan (Year 9) and Sophie (Year 11) for keeping the Emanuel chess flag proudly flying for another season.
