On the 10th of November Emanuel’s Computer Science A-Level class visited the Emmanuel centre for Education in Action’s series of lectures on the subject. Topics ranged from 13th century algorithms to futuristic driverless cars and the current development of them. It was encouraging to see equality and diversity in the lecture hall, both on stage and in the audience. We Computer Scientists took this opportunity to explore different intriguing fields within computing, allowing us to build aspirations for our future career paths. A particular highlight was the ‘Smart Cities’ lecture delivered by Professor Matthew Leeke in which he detailed how algorithms and smart devices can solve huge societal problems linking to the current energy crisis. Overall the day was a huge success, developing our interest in computer science.
