We were delighted to win this year’s ‘CWIZZ’ organised by the Children’s Writers and Illustrators (CWISL) group for the fifth time since we first entered in 2013. This wonderful book-based quiz, which celebrated reading, has gone from strength to strength and over the last decade has grown from a single competition to three annual events across London.

The three Emanuel teams were selected from pupils who attend my popular Lit Quiz Club and everybody in Emanuel ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ all had a great time, with several also winning individual prizes. All three teams scored very well, with Emanuel ‘A’ delighted to win with a massive 46 out of 50 points. Very well done to Cecilia, Dea, Gabe and Ray for winning the competition in style. Ibstock Place were also impressive, coming both second and third.

With almost 35 teams entering from a wide ranging seventeen schools, including independent, state, primary, and partnership we were delighted to involve so many schools involved in our partnership and Primary Ambition initiatives.  It was lovely to see Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Primary School winning the Year 5 and 6 prize and they were joined by many other partnership schools from our network, including Ark John Archer Primary, Thomas Academy, Ernest Bevin Academy, The Hurlingham Academy, Chesterton School, John Burns Primary, Alderbrook Primary, Heathmere Primary, Franciscan Primary and St Faith’s Primary.

Next February our Library Assistant Olivia Wakeford’s debut Middle Grade novel ‘My Dog’ is released, with Olivia giving a guest reading amongst the author slots. One lucky child was delighted to win a proof copy of the soon to be published novel. This was a very exciting moment for Olivia and her first very big public reading.

Our Emanuel teams were:

A

Cecilia (Y8) captain

Gabe (Y8)

Dea (Y8)

Ray (Y7)

B

Idris (Y8) captain

Dylan (Y8)

Ava (Y7)

Quiz activities continue thick and fast after Christmas, firstly with our popular Lower School Form Quiz competition for the prestigious Neale Shield in which a series of quizzes determine who are our Year 6, 7 and 8 champions, ultimately determining our overall Lower School champions.

We will also shortly be preparing for another tilt at the 2025 National Reading Championship Quiz, with the south London heat taking place on Tuesday 18th of March. This will be a very hotly contested competition, as only one team qualifies for the national final.
