On Tuesday we celebrated European Day of Languages with a selection of tasty dishes from Spain, Germany, Austria and France.
For the main course there was a warm and spicy Basque Chicken & Chorizo Pie and a traditional Viennese dish of Jägerschnitzel which is a tender pork loin steak, coated in crispy breadcrumbs. For our two vegan dishes we visited the Balearic islands for Tumbet, a delicious Mallorcan dish of layered Mediterranean vegetables then over to France for a tasty Confit d’Aubergines et Tomatoes Tarte Tatin. These dishes were accompanied by Patatas Bravas and Espinacas con Garbanzos which is often served in the traditional tapas bars of Seville. For dessert it was back to Germany for a delicious Apfelstrudel with a British twist when we served it with some delicious creamy custard. What hot dessert is not complete without some creamy custard to accompany it?
It was a very colourful and tasty menu and the national flags and bunting helped to create a very jolly atmosphere in the Refectory and Buttery at lunch.
In a couple of weeks we are going to be marking Black History Week with some fabulous food from Africa.
