The fifth meeting of the Archer Advisory Group took place on Wednesday 26 May.

Eleven staff and eleven pupils reflected upon the anniversary of the death of George Floyd, discussed our exciting community partnerships programme, and began preparations for Black History Month. Plans were also made for the production of a film about the work of the Archer Group. Ruby in Year 7 described it as an ‘amazing meeting’.

A whole school ticket was purchased for an online conference on 21st June hosted by Floella Benjamin called Through the Square Window: A dream of belonging. Baroness Benjamin told us of her family’s move from Trinidad to England in 1960, how she came to be the first black woman on children’s TV and about her work in the House of Lords, particularly her chairing of the Government’s Windrush Commemoration Committee. One member of staff commented, ‘Such a positive and wonderful woman, I laughed and cried all the way through and will go home smiling.’

The Archer Group will continue to play a central role in our ongoing dialogue regarding race and diversity at Emanuel.
