What information do I need to include Emanuel in my will?
Charity name: Emanuel School General Charitable Trust
Charity number: 296273
Address: Emanuel School, Battersea Rise, London SW11 1HS
Can I reduce Inheritance Tax by leaving a gift to the school?
Emanuel School is a registered charity (charity number 296273) and so gifts are exempt from UK Inheritance and Capital Gains Taxes. Under current rules, if you leave 10% or more of your chargeable net estate to charity, the Inheritance Tax rate on the whole of your taxable estate is reduced from 40% to 36%.
However, Inheritance Tax rules can change so it’s always best to discuss your will and the type of gift you might like to leave with your solicitor.
Do I need to leave a large amount?
No, all gifts are important to us and will be used with care. Leaving just 1% of your estate can make a huge difference to the future of our pupils and the school site.
The value of money changes over time, particularly with rising inflation, so a percentage gift can help to make sure your loved ones are taken care of, while allocating a small share to the school.
Do I need to tell Emanuel School that I intend to leave them a gift in my will?
No, it is completely your choice. However, it helps us to plan ahead and honour your wishes if you let us know by filling in the 1594 Club membership form.
Do I need a solicitor to write my will?
We are unable to provide any legal advice. A solicitor will help to ensure that your will is valid and that your wishes will be met. However, you can choose to use a will writer or online will provider.
What if I change my mind about my will?
We understand that circumstances can change, and you can change the content of your will at any time.
