As we reach the halfway point of the term, I am delighted to share an update on the progress of our hockey program. With 14 teams in action across various age groups, it’s been a busy and exciting period for everyone involved. Our fixtures have been both competitive and challenging, pushing our players to improve, and the progress across all teams has been pleasing to see.
Competitive Fixtures and Team Progress
Throughout the term, our teams have faced strong opposition, but they’ve risen to the challenge. From our new year 6 and year 7 pupils to the senior squads, there has been a clear improvement in both individual skills and overall team play. The competitive nature of the fixtures has provided invaluable experience, helping pupils sharpen their game tactics and learn how to adapt under pressure.
Cup Successes
It has also been an exciting term in cup competitions. Our 1st XI has shown real determination and skill, successfully qualifying for the second round of the U18 regional tournament. This is a great achievement, and the team is eagerly preparing for the next round, where they’ll compete for a spot in the England Hockey finals.
Our U15 girls have also enjoyed a strong run in the Independent Schools Cup. Their success in qualifying for the later rounds is a testament to their teamwork and dedication. This success has built a real sense of momentum, and they are now focused on continuing this excellent form when they return from half term.
England Hockey Pathway Progress
A number of our pupils have been involved in trials for club and London County over the first part of term. Several of our girls and boys have successfully progressed to the next stage of London assessments which forms the first entry point to England Hockey’s player pathway. We are hugely proud of our pupils’ hockey achievements outside of school and look forward to supporting them as they strive to progress higher up the pathway system.
Looking Ahead
As we move into the second half of the term, there is much to be excited about. Our teams will continue to face tough opposition in both league fixtures and cup competitions, but I am confident that they will meet these challenges head-on.
We will also maintain our focus on individual development, fitness, and game intelligence, ensuring that our players are well-prepared for the rest of the season. The work done so far has laid a strong foundation, and I am looking forward to seeing how the teams build on their achievements.
