We had some exciting news this week from Lower Sixth student Lucy, who has won a Bartlett Summer School scholarship for the second year running.

The Bartlett School of Architecture, part of UCL, is one of the most highly respected architecture schools in the world.  The institution runs a summer school every year for young people who are interested in pursuing a career in architecture and gives an opportunity for students to explore imaginative thinking, surveying, speculation and construction, using the Bartlett’s facilities.

The courses are taught through a series of small group tutorials, finishing with a joint one-day exhibition of work. While there, students visit architectural exhibitions and sites of interest before working for three days on collaborative drawings and models.

To be considered for the course’s scholarship, Lucy had to submit an electronic portfolio with ten pieces of her work, including work from her Art and DT GCSE work and Art A level work, together with a letter of recommendation from her Art teacher. She submitted a personal statement expressing her interest in architecture including any relevant skills or achievements.

Very well done to Lucy.
